I wear many hats, including management, direct services and all of the daily aspects of running a business. As the founder and CEO, I do the longer term strategic planning, marketing, product development, budgeting, business planning and implementation of that plan. In the years I’ve been there, we’ve grown from matching volunteers with needs in the community to engaging volunteers in multiple types of volunteering with the goal of moving people toward a long term, deep connection with a volunteer opportunity. We were also able to send 4 volunteer trips to New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. That was one of the defining moments in my career as I used to live in New Orleans, so it was very near and dear to my heart. I realized that my job put me in a unique and perfect position to help. I had the skills and resources to gather volunteers, work with agencies that needed volunteers, and bring the two groups together in a meaningful way. | | Branden A. McLeod, LGSW Policy Analyst Maryland Budget & Tax Policy Institute www.marylandpolicy.org Since I graduated in 2006, I have worked as a government affairs associate for Child Welfare League of America, and I am presently a policy analyst for the Maryland Budget and Tax Policy Institute. If it weren't for my internship with Sue Gladhill, MSW, Vice President of External Affairs, UMB during my last year in the MSW program, I wouldn't have discovered and acquired the job at Child Welfare League of America. It was at a legislative hearing in Annapolis during the General Assembly session that I learned of CWLA and looked into them right after the hearing for job opportunities in legislative advocacy. | | Duane St. Clair After spending 26 years working to develop programs and services for the elderly with a local government, I have spent the last 5 years working as a consultant for the development of programs dealing with youth in out of home care. This includes youth aging out of foster care, children living with relatives, youth in group homes and youth in family foster care. I have been involved as a volunteer with a number of national organizations that are involved in foster care and serve on a number of boards and committees in this area. |
