What is BHWISE?
The School of Social Work has been awarded a 1.7 million dollar grant from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) to continue and expand the Behavioral Health Workforce Integration Service and Education (BHWISE) Program. The UMB SSW has hosted a BHWISE Fellowship program since 2015. The first three cohorts of BHWISE Fellows were committed to careers in behavioral health services for children, youth, and young adults. The BHWISE Lifespan program will recruit and train 120 advanced-year MSW students to provide behavioral health services to clients of all ages who live in underserved communities. The program will create new interprofessional courses in behavioral health across the health professions. BHWISE Fellows will be supported in their advanced practicum through a stipend of $10,000 per student. Thirty students will be selected as BHWISE Fellows each year for 2017-2021.
