Presenters:
Lori James-Townes, LCSW-C, whose commitment to the criminal justice field is evident by the passion she displays while serving clients, providing training, and advocating for equal access to justice through effective sentencing, policy, and program development. In addition to being a member of the University of Maryland School Of Social Work's SWCOS team, Lori is the president of L.Y. James and Associates, providing forensic services, expert testimony, mitigation investigation, alternative sentencing, consultation, and clinical trainings.
Mrs. James-Townes has worked in the areas crisis intervention, juvenile detention, and community mental health. She is also sought after throughout the country to train attorneys, judges, clients, clinicians, and students. She is currently the President of the National Alliance of Sentencing Advocates and Mitigation Specialist (NASAMS). NASAM is the only national membership organization serving professionals who are providing sentencing advocacy, alternative sentencing, criminal proceedings expert testimony, and mitigation services nationwide.
AND
Eddie Ellis, Jr., a native Washingtonian, is a youth activist and motivational speaker in the Washington DC metropolitan area. Mr. Ellis is a former offender. He has written and published, The Window of Opportunity Pre-Release Handbook, and The Window of Opportunity Pre-Release Handbook for Women -- resource guides offering service referrals, practical tips, and inspiration to former offenders and parolees resettling in the Washington, DC area.
He is also the creator of "The People That We Hurt On The Outside Seminar CD," which is used to help both young adult men and women understand that every bad choice they make affects others, and that it is ok to ask and be forgiven. In addition, he has experience training criminal justice professionals and speaking to diverse populations about criminal justice and offender reentry. Mr. Ellis also mentors young offenders and well as at- risk youth in Washington, DC.
