UMB SSW Convocation Information For 2013 May (Spring) and July (Summer) Graduates When: Friday, May 17, 2013 Where: Patricia and Arthur Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - 140 W. Mt. Royal Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21201
Time: 9 AM -- Doors to the Lyric open at 8 AM [graduates need to arrive no later than 8:30 AM--and please note that there will be no food or beverage service available at the Lyric] There will be a limit on the number of tickets available for each graduate. Attire/Protocol:
Traditional academic regalia (cap, gown, tassel and robe/hood) is required. Graduates are required to drape their hood across their right arm when proceeding into the ceremony hall and when crossing the stage. Once on stage, a faculty member places the hood on the graduate then the graduate is honored by Dean Barth. Full academic regalia is also worn at the UMB Commencement. The University of Maryland, Baltimore's Commencement ceremony begins at the 1st Mariner Arena at 2 p.m. the same day. Graduates need to arrive no later than 1:15 p.m. to line up. UMB DIPLOMAS:
UMB diplomas will be presented to May graduates at the UMB-wide Commencement. Diplomas may be picked-up in the UMB Office of the Registrar located at 601 West Lombard Street (HS/HSL Second Floor) after May 18. All remaining diplomas will be mailed the week of May 29. Diplomas for July (Summer) graduates are mailed in late August. MAY (SPRING) GRADUATES:
Deadline to file an Application for Diploma is FEBRUARY 10, 2013. Filing an Application for Diploma is mandatory and can be submitted online through SURFS (instructions are sent to all students via their campus e-mail account). www.simsweb.umaryland.edu/umbhtml/diplomaapp.html
PLEASE NOTE: If you are enrolled in an extended field placement you’re considered a July (Summer) graduate. JULY (SUMMER) GRADUATES:
You MUST select “Summer” on your Application for Diploma as your expected date of graduation. If you plan to participate in the May ceremonies you must apply by April 1. July graduates may participate in both the SSW Convocation and UMB Commencement ceremonies. July graduates ARE listed in the SSW Convocation program but are NOT listed in the UMB Commencement program as you will not receive your diploma until after you complete your studies in July. TICKET DISTRIBUTION:
Students picking up tickets should have already filed an Application for Diploma as these forms are used to compile the List of Graduates. Students should bring their ID card or some form of picture ID to obtain their (4) allotted tickets. All guests must have a ticket in his or her possession to be admitted to the Convocation Ceremony. Graduates do not need a ticket for themselves. Also during this ticket distribution, you will receive a pack of announcements for the campus Commencement ceremony.
We encourage using our Facebook page for those seeking extra tickets. Ticket distribution dates and times follow: April 8th through the 20th in Room 1E08 - 4/8 – 4/11 – 10 am to 6 pm
- 4/12 – 10 am to 5 pm
- 4/13 - 11 am to 1 pm
- 4/15 – 4/18 – 10 am to 6 pm
- 4/19 – 10 am to 5 pm
- 4/20 – 11 am to 1 pm
Please note that tickets are not necessary for the afternoon campus ceremony at the Baltimore Arena.
