What is SWCOS? | Current SWCOS Sites | Information for Clients | Social Work & Technology Peace Corps Fellows/USA Program Info | SWCOS Student Handbook It takes a neighborhood to raise a child today. Healthy children in nurturing families are the primary elements of a strong society. Neighborhoods and communities are the life space for children and families, and need to become nurturing and supportive environments. Institutions - government, educational, commercial and religious - play critical roles and so have special obligations in shaping these life spaces. The School of Social Work has a special role and obligation to provide community services, to train sensitive social work professionals and to make practice research possible. In turn, the knowledge we gain through practice feeds back into the teaching program of the school and the university, to renew and enhance it. Community-based, family-centered services are comprehensive. Social Work services are available for individuals, couples, families and community based organizations. Special consulting services are offered for non-profit and government organizations. All methods and specialties of the profession may be used as needed. We facilitate access to each of the professional faculties of the university. In addition to a full range of family-centered services, we provide the practice and research training experience for faculty and graduate interns. Our community development services aim to ensure a positive and nurturing environment. top .
