Fellowship for School-based Mental Health

Mental health is a strategic, comprehensive workforce pathway designed to recruit, train and place students who desire to advance their careers as licensed, school-based social workers—resulting in culturally responsive, increased access to quality mental health services for youth in urban k-12 settings.

There are currently two entry points for social work students:

• BSW fellowship includes full-time Coppin State or UMBC juniors, entering fall as the final year

• MSW fellowship includes full-time 2nd year or advanced standing students enrolled at the University of Maryland, Baltimore 

• Passion for social justice and racial equity
• Fellowship Commitment Period: 2 years for BSW students, 1 year for MSW students
• Sign a service contract to work in a school setting for 2 years post-MSW graduation
• Attend orientation & pre-service training
• Field placement in a k-12 school or Expanded School Based Mental Health setting
• MSW Enrollment in SWL 750 Social Work in Education Settings course
• Participation in weekly supervision, monthly training, and spring presentations of learning
