The Annual Fund
[Give Online]

The Annual fund is at the heart of our mission to educate and train leaders in social work education, research, scholarship, service and advocacy.  Annual Fund contributions allow the School to respond to arising opportunities that offer the chance to make a greater difference for our students, faculty, or community partners. The Annual Fund helps narrow the gap between actual operating costs of the school and what each student pays in tuition.  It supports scholarships for students, technology and research materials for the classroom, stipends for educational and research travel, and professional development opportunities for students and faculty.  Donors may choose from the following general areas of support:

  • Greatest Need (Unrestricted)
Unrestricted gifts allow vital flexibility, enabling the Dean to respond quickly to opportunities in innovative teaching and research as they arise.

  • Community Outreach
Supporters of community-based outreach make possible a wide range of projects that fulfill social needs while building knowledge and providing valuable training for students.

  • Scholarships for Students
Scholarship support helps to ensure that the School remains accessible to all of the best students -- from all backgrounds.

  • Faculty Enhancement
Support for faculty strengthens and expands professional development opportunities and provides for research travel, community-service activities, and responsiveness to needs in social work education and research.

Giving Clubs
[Give Online]

The Dean’s Fund for Excellence
The Dean’s Fund for Excellence recognizes individual gifts to the annual fund at the $1,000 plus giving level.  It is a discretionary fund that the Dean uses to provide outreach to alumni and friends, support for faculty and staff projects, and in the promotion of the strategic goals of the School.

The Heritage Society
The Heritage Society recognizes individuals with lifetime gifts to the School of Social Work totaling $10,000 or more.  Members of the Heritage Society are recognized perpetually in School of Social Work publications.

The Partners Circle
The Partners Circle recognizes individuals with five or more years of continuous giving to the Annual Fund.  Parnters Circle members will be acknowledged in the annual Honor Roll of Donors.

Matching Gifts
[Give Online]

Many corporations offer Matching Gift Programs that can increase the value of employee contributions to the School of Social Work.  Corporate matching gifts can double or triple the impact of an individual gift.  To learn more about matching gifts, visit your company’s human resources department to learn more about its matching gift policy.

Endowed Gifts
[Give Online]

Endowed funds have a strong and lasting influence on the School’s character and are often named for the donor or in honor of a loved one, friend, colleague, or teacher to recognize and pay tribute to an individual’s commitment to educational excellence and the betterment of society.

Endowed funds may be established with a gift of $25,000 or more.  Donors may choose to establish an endowed fund to support their favorite academic program, scholarships for students, support for teaching and research and for general purposes.

Endowment funds are managed by the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation, Inc. and become part of the UMB investment portfolio.  These funds are managed to avoid erosion of the corpus and to protect and increase the principle investment.  Only income derived from the fund is used to affect the purpose for which the fund was created.  For more information about establishing an endowed fund at the School of Social Work, contact  David Flinchbaugh at (410) 706-2357.

The Legacy Council
[Give Online]

The Legacy Council recognizes alumni and friends who have included the School of Social Work in their estate plans.  Estate planning and planned giving vehicles offer tremendous benefits to donors while making generous gifts possible.   Learn more about planned giving by visiting planned giving online.  Or, if you have already included the School of Social Work in your estate plans please let us know so that we may include your name in the Legacy Council Honor Roll and personally thank you for your gift.
