The School of Social Work (SSW) and Center for Information Technology Services (CITS) have installed a wireless network covering all floors of the SSW's two buildings.

What Can I Do/Not Do With It?

  • Surf the Web

Anyone who brings a wireless-enabled laptop into the SSW will be able to surf the Internet via his or her installed Web browser. For security reasons, they will not be able to use any other TCP/IP application that uses other IP port services (such as Telnet or FTP) or have access to any campus-connected applications or systems.

How do I connect?

  • When you are within range of a wireless network, your laptop will detect it.  Double click the wireless network icon in your system tray (lower right corner, near the clock).  A list of wireless networks that are available will be shown.  Select the network that you wish to use (UMB Guest) and click on ‘Connect’.  Once connected open a web browser and try to open a site. You should be redirected to a login page, enter your email address and you will be granted access.
  • Some networks (all others then UMB Guest) will require that that you enter a user name and password.
