Public Child Welfare Research, Practice, and Education The University of Maryland School of Social Work’s Title IV-E program is pleased to announce the availability of up to two years of support for a social work doctoral student interested in public child welfare research, practice, and education. The successful candidate will receive an appointment beginning in Fall '07 to work under the supervision of Dr. Caroline Burry and will participate in research on and support for a program educating MSW students for a career in public child welfare. This assistantship consists of a stipend in the amount of $20,000.00, plus tuition remission for up to 10 credits for the Fall and Spring semesters. The appointment requires the student to work 20 hours per week over 12 months. Students interested in submitting an application for this assistantship must first be admitted to the School's PhD program. In addition to the doctoral program GRA application, the student should write a letter describing how his/her long-term research goals are consistent with this position. Social Work Research Development and Support The University of Maryland School of Social Work’s Research Group is pleased to announce the availability of a GRA position in Research Development and Support. The successful candidate will receive an appointment from September 2007 –August 2009 to work under the supervision of Dr. Bruce R. DeForge. The student will learn about how research is developed, funded, and implemented at a major research institution. They will also learn about human subject protection and the ethics surrounding research. They will learn to utilize a variety of resources to find information about funding and funders of social work research. The student will provide assistance to faculty who are developing grant proposals in various areas of social work research.
The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills (English), the ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the internet. Experience with statistical packages (e.g. SPSS) is desired. This assistantship consists of a stipend in the amount of $15,800.00, ($19,000 the second year) plus tuition remission for up to 10 credits for the Fall and Spring semesters and health insurance. The student is expected to work 20 hours per week. Students interested in submitting an application for this assistantship must first be admitted to the PhD program.
