Baltimore St., First Floor The Center for Families, a partnership between the Department of Pediatrics and the Schools of Medicine and Social Work at the University of Maryland Baltimore, develops "state of the art" interventions, provides valuable clinical and community-based services, helps bridge the gap between research and practice, and educates professionals to better address the problem of child maltreatment and other associated issues. The mission of the Center for Families is to promote safety, health, and well-being for children, families, and communities through community and clinical services, research, education, and advocacy. The Center is committed to: - Providing educational and practice experiences for medical, social work, nursing, law, and psychology students, interns, residents, and fellows.
- Delivering and evaluating clinical and community-based services for children and families at risk for maltreatment and related problems (prevention), as well as those where maltreatment is suspected (assessment) or has occurred (treatment).
- Conducting research and program evaluations that build knowledge concerning the prevention, assessment, and treatment of child abuse and neglect. This includes the health and social problems that challenge the safety, health, and well-being of children, families, and communities and the protective factors that promote strength and resilience.
- Engaging in advocacy, including the analysis of existing and proposed laws and policies, educating policy makers, and promoting better policies, programs, and resources.
