The University of Maryland School of Social Work Sustainability Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the SSW Sustainability Committee is to examine ways we as a community can increase our ecological awareness and lessen our impact on the physical environment.  The Committee is charged with advising the Dean of the School of Social Work on matters pertaining to the environment and sustainability as it relates to the University of Maryland Baltimore, School of Social Work. To fulfill this obligation, the SSW Sustainability Committee is comprised of a diverse cross-section of stake holders including students, staff, and faculty.

Sustainability can be defined as:  “meeting the needs of the present…without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs” (Brundtland report, 1987).

The mission of the SSW Sustainability Committee includes:

  • Lessening the environmental impact of the school through efficient resource utilization.
