Awards and Honors

Macro faculty members, Michael Reisch (2013) and Corey Shdaimah (2015) were the two most recent recipients of the NASW-Maryland "Social Work Educator of the Year" Award.

Michael Walter, MSW ’15, was NASW Maryland 2015 MSW Social Work Student of the Year.

Michael Reisch received the 2014 "Teacher of the Year" Award from the University of Maryland-Baltimore.

Michael Reisch received the 2014 Significant Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council on Social Work Education.

In March 2015, Michael Reisch gave the Burack Distinguished Lecture at the University of Vermont.

Tanya L. Sharpe, PhD, MSW, Associate Professor, University of Maryland, School of Social Work, has been named a Center for Community-Based Engagement & Learning (CBEL) Faculty Fellow for the 2015-2016 academic year. Dr. Sharpe is one of eight faculty from the six professional UMB schools chosen to participate in this one-year fellowship that is designed to engage and support fellows interest in enhancing community engaged learning and scholarship using a social justice framework in their respective Schools and across UMB Schools. As a result, these fellows become part of a network of faculty, staff and students committed to advancing social justice by developing and sustaining genuine community engagement by working in partnership with community members and community based organizations (CBOs) in our West Baltimore community.

‌‌‌Daphne L. McClellan, PhD, MSW, Executive Director, NASW-MD Chapter, and Adjunct Faculty celebrated 10 years at Chapter Executive Director. At the June 2015 Board meeting, the NASW-MD Board of Directors acknowledged the 10 Years of Service mark achieved by their Executive Director, Daphne McClellan.  Daphne is well-known in all the key legislative, regulatory, and advocacy circles impacting the social work profession and client populations. The Board also noted its appreciation of Daphne’s efforts to make our participation, and the participation of other NASW members, in chapter activities easy and engaging.
