Advocacy Day in Annapolis - Wednesday, March 5, 2014
Students are encouraged to take part in a special event planned with state legislators in Annapolis. Students will be able to take part in one-on-one meetings with their legislators and be recognized in both the House and Senate chambers.
The goal of the day is for students and faculty members who also attend to help build stronger relationships between the School and elected officials.
Transportation to and from Annapolis will be provided.
Students who are interested in social work policy and advocacy are strongly encouraged to attend. There is no charge for this event. Please contact Dr. Michael Reisch via email if you have questions.
Tentative Schedule [subject to change]:
7:30 AM: Arrive in Annapolis to review advocacy messages and logistics for the event
9 - 10 AM: One-on-one meetings with legislators
10 AM: Students recognized in the House and Senate chambers
11 AM - 1 PM: One-on-one meetings with legislators continues followed by lunch
1 PM: Lunch and debriefing by UMB's Government Relations staff. Students will be back to Baltimore by 3:30 PM.
There will be a mini-workshop scheduled for participants prior to the event on "How to speak with a state legislator."
