SSW Dean SearchFebruary 14, 2020:
I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with the School of Social Work on searching for the next dean. The Committee is still hard at work, and beginning next week, candidates for the position of Dean at the University of Maryland School of Social Work will visit the campus to meet with members of the community.
The visit schedules include dedicated open times for candidates to meet and answer questions from faculty, staff, students, alumni. The schedules for these visits, including the times and locations for these important opportunities to get to know the candidates, will be released as soon as they are finalized.
Web pages with the candidate's profile and CV will be made available to students, staff, and faculty on the SSW Dean's Update web site. These profiles will be available only through a password-protected portal (use your UMB login information to access).
The search committee has done an excellent job of selecting candidates from a talented pool of applicants. We ask that during this process your respect our goal of having an open process with opportunities for feedback, while protecting the candidates privacy as much as possible. We look forward to visiting with the candidates and receiving your feedback over the next few weeks.

Dean Barth at AASWSWMay 2019
Dean Richard P. Barth has announced his plans to transition back to faculty after the 2019-20 academic year.

"As I close the chapter on another academic year and after presiding over my 13th Convocation ceremony and the completion of our MSW and PhD student’s transitions to new professional roles, I am ready to communicate my own transition. The time has come to step back from this vitally important and fulfilling leadership role.   I have been proud to serve as Dean during these years spending every day working to make the School an even better place of excellence in learning, research and community outreach.

I have informed the UMB President of my intentions to transition out of my role as Dean of the University of Maryland School of Social Work at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year.

I will return to the faculty where I hope to bring renewed consistency and impact to my very intermittent work as a children’s services scholar.
