Hallie, has been with the Promise Heights initiative since June 2015. Prior to her tenure at Renaissance Academy, Ms. Atwater served as the Maternal Child Health Social Worker at Greater Baltimore Medical Center and as an individual, group, and family therapist at Board of Child Care of the United Methodist Church, the largest therapeutic group home in the state of Maryland. At Renaissance Academy, Ms. Atwater facilitates supportive programming to meet students’ basic needs, to enhance social-emotional learning, and to prevent youth violence. For example, she implements “Safe Dates: an Adolescent Dating Abuse Prevention Curriculum” with all freshman students in accordance with a school-based violence prevention grant through the Baltimore City Health Department Office of Youth Violence Prevention. She is a licensed trainer for Restorative Practices and regularly facilitates circles and trauma response with students and staff. Her knowledge and understanding of adolescent development, the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, bereavement processes, and trauma-informed care enable her serve the students and families of the Renaissance Academy with compassion and expertise.
