The Human Trafficking for Law Enforcement Trainings aim is to increase the understanding and knowledge held by law enforcement on the issue of labor and sex trafficking to enhance law officer’s ability to better identify and investigate cases of human trafficking. The trainings are also designed to enhance skills for officers in victim-centered response. The training is designed to have at least one expert in human trafficking and at least 1 survivor to provide officers with victim perspective and experiences with human trafficking during the training. The two-day trainings have been developed and currently implemented, targeting officers across the state of Maryland. In collaboration with the Maryland State Police Department and the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force, the law enforcement trainings are supported through funding from the Department of Justice, Office of Victims of Crime as a part of a 3-year PARI Initiative, Maryland Human Trafficking Initiative for Children and Youth. Currently, the trainings are coordinated through the Maryland State Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland.
