UMBC Advanced Standing

For the Fall 2026 semester, the SSW is launching a new UMBC Advanced Standing application process. Students who meet the program requirements can apply to the Baltimore, USG, or Online MSW campus options. 

UMBC students who meet the following criteria are eligible for this new application:  

• Completed an undergraduate program in social work at UMBC (both main and USG campuses) within the 5 years preceding their enrollment at the SSW, or 

• Will complete the undergraduate program in social work at UMBC (both main and USG campuses) by May 2026 

• Earned a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for the undergraduate degree, earned a minimum 3.0 GPA for the last 60 credits, and a grade of “B” or higher for all social work courses 

Those who meet the above criteria and are applying for the Fall 2026 semester will submit the following:  

• Recommendation by Practicum Supervisor
• Official transcripts and application fee
