Dr. Peter Smith, MRE, MDiv., MSW, PhD, LCSW-C has held faculty appointments at Loyola University, Community College of Baltimore County, and since 2004, as a clinical instructor at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. He is a clinical social worker for Inspirit Counseling Services, a community based not-for-profit agency where he has practiced psychotherapy with adults, couples, families, and groups for over 35 years. He came to social work in 1986, drawn by an interest in family therapy. He received master’s degrees in Divinity and Religious Education from Mount Saint Alphonsus in Esopus, New York. He completed his MSW in 1988 and his PhD in 1999, both from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. His professional interests include theory development, emotional systems theory, object relations theory, and the interface of religion and mental health.
