The University of Maryland School of Social Work is a very vibrant place with many opportunities for learning, growing, and giving back.

In the classroom, our world-class faculty, which includes some of the most respected scholars and teachers in the field, will challenge you to become your very best. We strive to develop practitioners, leaders, and scholars to advance the well-being of populations and communities and to promote social justice. We take our commitment to these ideals very seriously and expect our students to want to also achieve these same goals.

In the field, you will use the tools you learn in the classroom to help serve real people and communities. Our field education program is demanding, more demanding than some other schools of social work, but we know what you learn and practice in the social work field is what changes things in the world for the better. We want you to have strong field skills so you can make an impactful difference as a changemaker.

With your classmates, we offer a number of popular and active student groups to take part in. Our student groups work toward making the student experience at the SSW as fulfilling and rewarding as possible.

In the community, the University of Maryland School of Social Work has made a strong financial and service commitment to the citizens of West Baltimore. You will find hands-on field placements in numerous West Baltimore locations and elsewhere in the city. In addition, the School's Center for Restorative Change, formerly SWCOS, Promise Heights, B'More for Healthy Babies, Social Worker in the Library Program (as featured on Good Morning America) and much more give you the unique opportunity to volunteer, give back, and help bring generational change to the communities we strive every day to serve.
