The Behavioral Health Workforce Integration Service and Education (BHWISE) ADVANCE/AVANCE MARYLAND Fellowship was a fellowship opportunity in partnership with the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Department of Psychology. UMBC psychology students and advanced-year UMSSW students were recruited and trained from 2023 to 2025 to provide integrated, culturally and linguistically competent behavioral health services for children, youth, and young adults in underserved and/or rural communities.  Through a no-cost extension of the federal Health Resources and Services (HRSA) grant, an additional five UMSSW students are current fellows for the 2025-2026 academic year.

In the future, if funds become available, the School of Social Work would like to restart this successful program, preparing students for clinical social work in integrated, culturally and linguistically competent behavioral health services for children, youth, and young adults in underserved communities.
