About

Yali Deng, MSW, is a fourth-year PhD student and graduate research assistant at UMSSW. She is interested in mental health promotion and suicide prevention among college students and minority young adults (e.g., racial/ethnic minority and sexual minority). Her dissertation aims to use a national longitudinal dataset to explore how change in minority stress and community connectedness is associated with change in suicidal severity among three generations of LGB population. In teaching, she is passionate about teaching social work research, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and statistical data analysis.
