Tural Mammadli

Tural Mammadli HeadshotTural Mammadli is an international student from Azerbaijan and is a first year PhD student at University of Maryland, Baltimore. Tural worked with immigrant and refugee students and families at the Newcomer Project at Baltimore City Public Schools for two years as part of his field placement. His research interests include the impact of immigration policies and experiences on the mental health and substance use of refugees and immigrants and evidence-based interventions to address their needs.Tural Mammadli, LMSW is a full-time, 4th-year PhD student. While working towards his MSW degree at the UMSSW, Tural worked with immigrant and refugee students and families at the Newcomer Project at Baltimore City Public Schools for two years as part of his field placement. Currently, Tural is a member of the research team of Darren L. Whitfield, PhD, MSW, an associate professor, working on projects aimed at improving the wellbeing of LGBTQ+ persons of Color. 

Research interests:
Tural’s research interests include the examination of mental and physical health of sexual and gender minority communities at the intersection of multiple minoritized identities, including race, socioeconomic status, and immigration status. Particularly, Tural is interested in intersectional minority stress experiences, gender affirmation, and related health outcomes of transgender and nonbinary communities.
