36-Credit Hybrid Advanced Standing Eligibility & Application Requirements

Eligibility Requirements

  • completed an undergraduate program in social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education within the five years preceding their enrollment at our School.  
  • earned a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Additionally, a 3.0 grade point average is required for the last 60 credits. Please note that grades for field practicum, if assigned on a pass/fail basis by the applicant’s undergraduate program, are not included in the grade point average calculation. 
  • Course Grades: Applicants with a grade lower than a “B” in a Practice and Field Practicum class are not eligible for Advanced Standing. Advanced Standing credit is granted only for courses in which applicants earned a “B” or higher grade. Those who meet the requirements receive up to 24 semester hours of credit toward the MSW degree (this is referred to as our foundation curriculum). 

PLEASE NOTE:

  • December graduates are only eligible for Fall.
  • Undergraduates who do not complete their degree by May 31st are NOT eligible for Fall.
  • Applicants must already have their undergraduate degree to be eligible for the Spring term.
  • BSW students beginning a block field placement in the Spring are NOT eligible for Fall.
  • Applicants may only submit one application for each admission cycle (spring/fall of upcoming year).

*Complete applications include a submitted online application ($65 fee required), uploaded all required references and transcripts, and any other documentation required of that specific applicant (i.e. W.E.S. evaluation, TOEFL, Criminal Conviction, etc.).

Personal Statement/Essay Questions Respond to the prompted questions required for advanced standing application type. Limit each answer to 300 words.

A Case Plan is required as part of your personal statement.

One Reference  Advanced standing applicants are required to submit one professional references, usually including professors, employers, supervisors, professional colleagues, and community associates. 

Social Work Chair Recommendation This form is to be completed by the undergraduate social work department chairperson.

Social Work Field Supervisor This form is to be completed by the undergraduate field supervisor, who supervises the field placement. If you graduated with a BSW and working in the social work field, your current supervisor can submit this form.

Resume All applicants are required to submit a chronological resume of two pages or less. Be sure to include paid or volunteer experience, internships, and/or field placements.

Official transcript(s) from each college, university, or professional school you have attended.

Official transcript(s) can be submitted to the Office of Admissions in a sealed envelope as prepared by the sending institution OR as an official electronic transcript sent to Admissions Recruiter, Ms. Camille Johnson.
