The National Center for Excellence in Homeless Services selected the University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW) to be one of six regional Hub Leaders as a component of the Homelessness Social Work Initiative. In this role, the UMSSW is committed to advancing homelessnessinformed social work education. The School has a particular focus on preventing and ending homelessness among families and youth. The Hub was created to address the data available indicating that on any given night in the United States, approximately 610,000 men, women, and children find themselves homeless (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 2013). As a regional Hub, the UMSSW will be a resource to other schools of social work in the region and provide technical support to emerging community programs that address the grand challenge of ending homelessness.
